Blogs
I am a new user of blogs. Before I encountered my EDM 310 class, I had no clue on what a blog was about. For you all that don't know, a blog is a socializing program that goes on the Internet, something like facebook and myspace. Blogging is popular in some areas more than others, but I don't think that it will be so popular in my classroom. In a way it can be helpful. For example, you can always have contact with your students and even parents. On the other hand, Keeping up with all of those blogs could be a big hassle, if you don't organize them very well. Using technology could malfunction at anytime, then there's a problem. As a result, it makes blogging not so effective in my classroom as other technology sources.
Podcasts
A podcast is a pre-recorded audio program that's posted to a website and is made available for download so people can listen to them on personal computers or mobile devices. Podcasts has also kind of upgraded to videocasts. Podcasts is considered a technology tool. It is a program that's on iTunes and anything you want to hear, you will have to be logged into iTunes. Some podcasts have to be purchased before you can listen to them, while others are free. Most people use podcasts to post their lectures or anything that the society may want to know or be updated on. They are very educational if used in an educational way. I don't use technology that much, so I'm not so sure how often it will be used in my classroom, but It's possible that it will get used at least once. The reason that it may not be used as much is because I'm not a big fan of technology being used in my classroom, but maybe one day that will change.
On the other hand, I love to use e-mail. By using e-mail I can keep in contact with my students and also send them whatever they need and answer their questions as well. The difference between e-mail, podcasts, and blogs is that I am more comfortable with using e-mail. I can e-mail all my assignments, homework, reminders, etc. Also my students can send me their assignments by attaching them to an e-mail. It's so much that can be accomplished by using e-mail. E-mailing is a definite tool that will be used in my classroom, if needed.
Let's Find Out
Considering the fact that my major is Physical Education, I'm not sure if technology will be used by my students. There really isn't a reason for my students to have to use technology during the course of P.E., but they can. Physical education games and health games are online to be played and to educate them. On the other hand, blogs and podcasts doesn't really have any reason to be used by my students when dealing with physical education classroom issues.
